Lighting Your Wedding with Christmas Lights

With wedding season quickly approaching, we thought it was the perfect time to start thinking about lighting for the big day. Nowadays it can seem a bit overwhelming with all the options. We would like to help narrow down what you are looking for and give you some tips on how to use them in the right way, to make the lighting at your wedding spectacular.

White Wire Mini Lights: Mini lights are a classic lighting choice. There are so many choices. Mini lights are available in many bulb spacing, count and color.

Spacing include: 2.5", 3", 4", and 6". When you choose your bulb spacing, stick to it. If you choose all different spacing your project will look disorganized and sloppy.
Bulb counts include: 10, 15, 20, 35, 50 and 100. The same principal applies to bulb count as with spacing. Try to keep them all the same so you can keep a streamlined and clean look.
Bulb colors include: Amber, blue, clear, green, multi, pink, purple, red, teal and yellow. You might consider selecting one or two colors that match your wedding décor. Although, you could also stick with classic clear on white wire which will look beautiful with all wedding decorations.

Mini lights are fantastic for giving your wedding venue a little more ambience. Think of all the uses for these traditional Christmas lights. Here are a couple of our favorite uses for mini Christmas lights.
·       Lighting arches. If you chose to have arches going down the aisle or at your reception, why not light them up? It is very simple to do. Just choose your bulb and wire color. Wrap them around your arch and there you have a gorgeous glow for your evening event. A tip – if you are using white arches, it will look best to stick with clear bulbs on white wire. If you are using more greenery or having an outdoor ceremony/reception is will look better to use green wire lights.
·         Having an outdoor or evening wedding? Try lighting some of the tress at your location. This will add a hint of romance to your venue. Whether it is inside or out, guests will enjoy the extra effort to make the location more inviting.

Globe Lights: These lights are a classic and a staple with most decorators. These globe lights are most commonly used for lighting outdoor venues. They come in different sizes and bulb colors.

Bulb sizes include: G8  1", G30 – 1 1/8”, G40 – 1 1/2”, G50 (Most Common) – 2”. The measurements are the diameter of the bulb with base sizes in C-7/E12 and C9/E17.
Bulb colors include: Clear, pearl white and satin multi. Match your color scheme or use the more traditional clear.

Globe lights are a classic light that will work for almost any occasion. These would be perfect for a rustic wedding. Here are a couple of ways to use them for your shabby chic wedding.
·         Stringing a few strands of globe lights above the tables at your reception, or even just above the head table can add so much to a wedding. It gives you a romantic glow instead of harsh lighting on your special day.
·         Try lining the aisle, along the chairs or pews with globe lights. It will add a festive air to the ceremony and give a gorgeous soft glow of light.

Curtain Lights: Curtain lights are incredibly popular on the wedding circuit. Decorators and many other people will rent curtain lights for their events. But if you are a DIY-er like so many us then you might prefer to buy your lights and use them for other projects later.

Bulb spacing include: Spacing is about 6” between each bulb. This is pretty average with curtain lights.
Bulb counts include: 150 count mini light bulbs. Also an average for this type of curtain light.
Bulb/Wire colors include: Clear bulbs on both white and green wire. This will fit almost anyone’s needs and color scheme.

Curtain lights are a great tool for lighting weddings. If you want to add a little extra interest to your indoor wedding venue then this is it. Here a couple of our favorite uses for curtain lights in weddings.
·         Why not use curtain lights as a background. Hang a set or two behind the cake table or as a background for your ceremony. Cover with sheer fabric that matches your wedding décor. This will help to make the lighting a little less harsh for pictures. It makes a stunning background for any part of your ceremony or reception.
·         Use curtain lights as under-table lighting. If you are using a special cake table or a separate head table for your wedding party, why not set it apart and light up the underneath. All you will need to do is get curtain lights, heavy duty tape and some pretty sheer fabric that matches your wedding color scheme. It will give your table a gorgeous glow and really make them stand out.
